Regency Chair

A chair for the bathroom

I believe this chair to be Regency… Mr All Sorts thinks it is anyway… perhaps hoping for a few more quid in his pocket. He had it stored in the back room weighed down with various tools and covered in grease – this man loves his chairs.

I ripped down the chair to it’s bare bones. I was disappointed by the lack of Regency treasure – but am happy with my coins from the 1960’s and dirty comb. One of the legs was broken and I have fixed with a metal spike. Years of tack holes were filled and a new arm constructed.

No.3 Hill Street was written on the frame. I assume this to be a London chair, if so then this was once it’s home.

The fabric is ‘Cranes’ by Florence Broadhurst and is from the 60’s. If this had not been for a particular place in my house then I would have been brave and gone for the bright yellow colourway. FACT, Florence was murdered in Sydney in 1979 – her killer has never been found…. It is thought that she knew him (always a man) as there were two tea cups on the table next to her body.

This chair was highly commended by the ‘Worpshipful Company of Upholders’. It will never leave my bathroom.
