Piano Stool

A quirky chair I just had to have as soon as I saw it - even though it was covered in orange corduroy...

I picked this strange creature up in Stoke Newington at the Cobbled Yard. The seat itself can be made higher or lower by sliding it onto the rungs on either arm. Although I soon realised this chair was not for sitting on when using these rungs.. There is a plaque in the music score store in the bottom of the seat that reads ‘patent pending’. Hmmm, not sure how they did with that one.

I opted to upholster using modern materials. The fabric was from a Liberty sale a few years ago. It’s not upholstery fabric but as this chair is staying with me this is irrelevant. I am also making a bed spread with this fabric mixed with grey silk. Mmmm, pretty…

The chest of drawers was from ebay. I payed way too much for it thinking it would fit into an alcove and that it could be turned into a wine rack… It didn’t fit and I realised that wine doesn’t hang around long enough in my house to need a rack. Each leg has a piece missing. So far I have painted and filled it with the piles of paper and odds and sods that appear in the house. The cats are in the process of destroying it…
